Ronke Sokefun – Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation

Ronke Sokefun is currently the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, a position she assumed in 2019.

The NDIC – Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, is an independent agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria. The objective of the deposit insurance system is to protect depositors and guarantee the settlement of insured funds when a deposit-taking financial institution can no longer reimburse its deposits, thus contributing to the maintenance of the stability of the financial system.

In her capacity as Chairperson, she continued to build the reputation of the organization as a vital player in the Nigerian financial sector with collaborative arrangements aimed at achieving global industry standards.

Prior to joining the company as Chairman of the Board, she served in the Ogun State Government as Commissioner for Agriculture and then Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, providing strategic leadership and overseeing the transparent execution of government policy from 2012 to 2019. Her involvement in governance has been a kickstarter -starting in 2011 when she served as Special Advisor/Director – General Office of Lands and surveying from 2011 to 2012.

Prior to her foray into public service, she gained extensive experience in the private sector, rising through the ranks of her profession as a trained lawyer. Between 1990 and 1993, she worked at Ighodalo & Associates, a corporate secretarial firm. While there, she qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and later became a partner at Aluko & Oyebode; a prestigious Nigerian law firm in 2001. Her practice focused on business advisory services and she worked with several top-notch companies in this regard.

Armed with extensive experience and industry expertise, she became Head of Management Services for Ocean & Oil Services in 2002, then Head of Legal Services for Oando Group when it was established in 2004, rising to the position of group legal director. of the Group in 2007, a position she held until 2011 when she answered the call of public service.

Several organizations have benefited from her expertise, including the board of directors of Vmobile (now Airtel) where she served on the legal, regulatory and financial sub-committee as an alternate director.

As part of her commitment to giving back to society, she has an NGO known as the “MRS Foundation”. The Foundation focuses on social intervention programs to augment government efforts.

Sokefun is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators, Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association and Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.

She graduated with honors from Ogun State University School of Law (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) as the top student in Jurisprudence and Legal Theory and Commercial Law.
