The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) ripped off Rs 6,000 crore in toll tax. However, the MCD denied all the allegations.
The MCD, in a statement, alleged the losses were caused by collusion with the toll company. They clarified that in 2017, the contract was awarded to a company named MEP Infrastructure Developers Limited for the payment of Rs 1206 crore per annum for a period of five years.
After winning the contract, the company said it suffered a loss due to the opening of the Eastern Ring Road and the West Ring Road as well as a court order to stop toll collection on the route. free.
Instead, the company sought compensation for the loss it allegedly suffered. The MCD held several rounds of meetings to resolve the issue and after the company failed to make the payments due, it terminated the contract.
The MCD also lost the security deposit of MEP Infrastructure Developers Limited. The MCD has initiated proceedings to seize the assets of MEP Infrastructure Developers Limited. The liquidation of the company is pending before the National Company Law Appellate Tribuna (NCLAT).
In 2021, the toll tax contract was awarded to a company named Shahkar Global Limited for Rs 786 crore. The reserve price of the tender was Rs. 636 crores, against which the offer from Sahakar Global Limited was Rs 786 crores.
Sahakar Global Limited is paying the full amount as per the contract except for the period when the Government of National Capital Territory, Delhi imposed a lockdown and restricted the entry of heavy vehicles into Delhi.
In light of the above events, the allegations against them are baseless and factless, the MCD said.
